Realization
Written:

Whenever there's a winner
In my circle of friends,
My envy is silent,
My spirit bends.

For I might have won
That coveted prize,
Had things been different -
Or otherwise.

But such isn't so,
In my excuse-filled life,
Others were given
The edge on the knife.

I'm just a filler
Who's stuck in between
A person halfhearted,
A might-have-been.

But now I want more,
And not second best,
Tuning up skills
For passing the test.

I've learned from the winners,
And since I know how,
I'm ready to be one -
Starting right now.
