The Cerebral Palsy Visit
Written: 8/28/89

I couldn't speak to answer them
All those friends who came,
So I'd just smile a happy smile
In answer to my name.

They had so many troubles
Their faces told me that,
But worries vanished quickly
When they held my hand and sat.

They seemed to put their frowns aside
I made them so aware,
My smile was like a magic wand
Replacing their despair.

They never gave up coming
They must have needed me,
I gave them strength I didn't have
But joy the world could see.

I recognized each patient voice
It delighted me to hear,
Those sounds that changed from heavy tones
To ones of just found cheer.

My years of happiness are over now
But remember what I brought,
Then visit those who took my place
And catch the joy they've got.
